Putting Insomnia To Bed

We all have those nights that we just can’t sleep, regardless if you worked from sunrise to sunset and it sucks. There are several causes of Insomnia such as low blood sugar levels, temperature, anxiety and depression or simply just too much caffeine in the system that it could be hard to pin point the dilemma. Luckily I was able to dig up a few ways to help with calming the nervous tension. green tea

Firstly, you want to make sure that you eliminate caffeine, which is in things you might forget contain it, such as…

Chocolate                  Green Tea               Black Tea                                                                                                                                                                           Soft Drinks          Energy Drinks                Certain Aspirins

Secondly, you should eat foods high in B Vitamins (broccoli and wheat germ), calcium (tofu and yogurt), and magnesium(avocados, apples, brown rice) along with these healing foods and herbs:

Honey              Apples              Chamomile              Lavender              Sunflower Seeds              Leafy Greens              Skullcap                           St. John’s Wort              Nuts            almonds  Oats              Lettuce

kaleorganicAn easy way is to add these to a smoothie or juice them for maximum benefits. It almost seems too easy, too good to be true, but you have to remember that before we industrialized ourselves and made everything so readily consumable and before there was a “pill for every ill” our ancestors knew these little tricks. Some families kept better documentation of it than others which is why  if you have anything you want to share, let’s learn together, I would love to expand my knowledge.

Try This Vegetable juice for Leafy Greens:

8 fresh spinach leaves

3 kale leaves

1 beet, top intact or a turnip

2 celery stalks

1 apple

Whisk and serve. Feel free to substitute cabbage or lettuce, but stick with leafy greens for maximum benefits

side note – you may have to use the celery or apples to push the kale and spinach through the feed tube

Dont have a juicer?  Try this simple Smoothie

Almond Banana Milk

1 Cup (250 mL) of Almond Milk (you may substitute soy milk or any nut milk, but almond is best)

2 bananas

Pinch of ground nutmeg

Blend milk and banana until smooth and sprinkle some nutmeg… YUM!
